Building the Future of Tech: Avnet's Educational Initiatives

Avnet and Nanyang Polytechnic Forge Strategic Partnership to Drive Innovation in Engineering


Avnet Singapore is excited to announce a new partnership with Nanyang Polytechnic's (NYP) School of Engineering. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) ceremony took place on November 25, 2024, at the Avnet office. The session started off with short introduction sessions of Avnet and NYP’s School of Engineering, and this was followed by the signing of MOU between Avnet’s SVP, Asia Avnet Design Services Andy Wong, and NYP’s Dr Graham Ng, Deputy Director, School of Engineering.

This collaboration aims to foster innovation and empower the next generation of engineers. By combining Avnet's industry expertise and Nanyang Polytechnic's academic excellence, the partnership will provide students with valuable hands-on learning experiences, industry insights, and access to cutting-edge technologies.

Key areas of collaboration include:


• Collaborative Research and Development:
Joint research projects in smart electronics, embedded systems, and autonomous systems, focusing on areas such as smart cities, healthcare, sustainability, and advanced manufacturing.
• Industry Support:
Collaborating on industry projects and organizing joint seminars, workshops, and training courses to elevate industry capabilities.
• Student and Staff Development:
Offering opportunities for student internships, industrial attachments, and training programs through industry case studies, real-life projects, and hackathons.
• Electronics Co-Innovation Lab:
Establishing a platform for showcasing collaborative projects, involving staff and students from both organizations.
• Pre-Employment Training (PET):
Supporting PET modules on digital electronics, electronic devices, microcontroller applications, and embedded system design.
• Student Support:
Exploring opportunities for student sponsorships, scholarships, and graduation awards.

Following the MOU signing ceremony, the 7 representatives from NYP were given a tour of Avnet's ADS Lab located in the Avnet Singapore office, to showcase the lab's cutting-edge capabilities and the latest technologies and tools available for engineering design and development.

Through this strategic partnership, Avnet and Nanyang Polytechnic are committed to shaping the future of engineering and driving technological advancements.

The Avnet-CityU EE Joint Lab is a strategic partnership between Avnet and City University of Hong Kong’s Department of Electrical Engineering. This collaboration aims to foster innovation and research in the field of electrical engineering by providing students with hands-on experience, industry mentorship, and access to cutting-edge technology.

At the CityU EE Joint Lab launch ceremony took place on Oct 17, Avnet was represented by Edward Tsaur, VP for Marketing & Communications, Asia Pacific, who introduced the company and unveiled Avnet’s logo wall plate at the school building, marking the official start of this collaboration.

The Avnet-CityU EE Joint Lab collaboration offers mutual benefits. This partnership will foster collaboration in key areas, including:

This partnership will facilitate collaboration through an online platform for shared research and communication, as well as regular technology events such as seminars, lab visits, and open days. It will also focus on recruitment and training through initiatives like internships, career expos, and final year projects. Additionally, the collaboration will support joint research and development projects, technology licensing, and commercialization efforts. The MOU outlines the creation of Joint Labs focused on various research themes, teaching, and partnerships with government organizations, corporations, and university departments. This collaboration will strengthen the link between academia and industry, driving innovation while creating opportunities for students and professionals.

By combining Avnet’s industry expertise with CityU’s academic excellence, this collaboration is poised to make significant contributions to the field of electrical engineering.


Avnet Connects with Future Tech Talent at Hong Kong Baptist University STEM Internship Scheme Networking Event


Avnet connected with talented Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) students interested in the HKBU STEM Internship Scheme and other related opportunities at a networking event held on October 29, 2024.

As one of the participating employers, Avnet shared insights into the company's background, career opportunities, and the potential impact of technology solutions. This provided students with a valuable opportunity to learn more about Avnet and explore potential career paths.

The event drew interest from a diverse group of participants, including 28 employer representatives, 9 HKBU lecturers and staff, and 74 HKBU students. By participating in this event, Avnet was able to:

• Expand our talent pool:
Connect with potential future employees who are passionate about technology.
• Enhance brand visibility:
Increase brand awareness among HKBU students and faculty.
• Foster industry relationships:
Strengthen ties with other industry leaders and academic institutions.

One student, Jackson Xu, a Master of Information Technology Management student at HKBU, shared his experience: “During my first year job-hunting in Hong Kong, I gained valuable insights from employers who highlighted my strengths, offered career advice, and suggested ways to improve. The event also introduced me to diverse STEM industries and career paths. Many peers shared similar positive experiences, finding the interaction rewarding and inspiring.”
