A First for Avnet

The DEI Employer Awards® 2023 (China) are among the largest DEI awards programs in the world so far. At the end of this rigorous 5-months selection process, Avnet and 60 other companies were honoured with China's first DEI-oriented Employer Award (DEI Employer®️ Award 2023).

“Congratulations to Avnet China on this historic win. Not only is it a first for Avnet China, but it is also the first time, anywhere in the world, that Avnet has gained recognition for its DEI efforts,” said James Tan, Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Asia Pacific & Japan.

DEI Efforts Around the Region

Diversity & inclusiveness has been a major focus in Avnet ever since 2013 and evolved into Diversity, equity and inclusiveness. Ever since its inception in Phoenix in 2021, Avnet’s DEI department has aimed to improve the diversity and inclusiveness of our corporate culture worldwide. In APAC, we have been working especially hard to create an equitable and inclusive environment where every employee feels a sense of belonging. Discrimination is strictly prohibited, at any level, in terms of recruitment, promotion, and compensation, so that every employee has the opportunity to shine.

In China, Avnet employees hail from 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, and include representatives of many ethnic minorities. More than 45% of employees are women, and 40% of the management team are women.

In Hong Kong, women account for 46.3% of employees, and 50% of the management team. For more than 25 years, Avnet Hong Kong has offered its maternity and paternity leave in excess of legal requirements. And, for more than a decade, the office has organized ESG activities for disadvantaged members of the community. These charitable initiatives include a charity run for children and youth, entertainment programs for the elderly residents in aged care, star-gazing gatherings for low-income families, arts and crafts workshops for persons with disabilities, and most recently, a birthday party for persons with mental disabilities.

In Taiwan, 59% of the total workforce are women, and 48% of the management team are women. Extensive DEI-related efforts have been put in place, including mother and baby seminars for expectant mothers. On International Women's Day, in addition to the company-wide initiative of encouraging all employees to wear the colour purple in celebration and in support of women, employees were urged to complete the LinkedIn Learning online course "Leadership Strategies for Women" to learn actionable steps for gender equality. Gender-friendly restrooms are also available in the office area, for the convenience and comfort of gender-diverse employees.

Inclusive Celebrations in ASEAN and India

In South Asia region (including Korea), the ratio of male to female employees stands at 48 to 52, with women slightly outnumbering men.
