Avnet Greens the Garden City

On November 3 and 24, 2023, 40 of our colleagues in Singapore joined the Avnet Plant-A-Tree program in collaboration with National Parks Singapore.

Protecting the Environment, Nurturing the Future

The volunteers planted a total of 20 trees along East Coast Beach Park and Pasir Ris, a residential coastal neighbourhood in the east of Singapore. The trees contributed to the ambitious target of OneMillionTrees, a movement started in April 2020 by the National Parks’ Garden City Fund, which aims to plant a million trees across Singapore by 2030.

OneMillionTrees is a key part of Singapore Green Plan 20230, which sets out a series of sustainability goals for Singapore that envision a green urban infrastructure on an unprecedented scale. The realization of this plan will build on Singapore’s reputation as a Garden City, and lay the foundations for a sustainable future for generations to come.

Avnet is making concerted efforts to increase the energy efficiency of its operations, and helping drive the shift towards clean, green forms of energy with innovative technology solutions. In many ways, planting trees is a natural and symbolic expression of our focus on the environment.

“As we are experiencing more extreme weather due to climate change, it feels great to join my fellow colleagues in contributing to our community by planting these trees. Every contribution helps to protect our environment!” said Foo Say Peng, global director, ethics & compliance.

Connecting with Nature and Each Other

In addition to the physical contributions of the volunteers, Avnet Singapore made a financial contribution of SGD6,000 to the Garden City Fund’s OneMillionTrees program. The gratifying feeling of being part of something bigger – especially in the case of planting trees that will literally grow bigger over the years – was felt by all. From all reports, it was a great bonding experience and a meaningful morning out for all involved.

Rajan Nair, associate director, logistics, seconded Say Peng by saying, “I am honored to do my part in securing the future of our environment for generations to come. Thank you, Avnet, for organizing this!”

Isabelle Bang, business data analyst, spoke for all when she said, “It was a tree-riffic experience!”
