Sally Lu, Director, Avnet Taiwan, has been with Avnet for nearly two decades. She joined as an account manager in 2005, and today she manages a team that spans Taiwan, South China and East China.

Moving Forward, Step by Step
For the first eight years of her time with Avnet, Sally managed large accounts such as Foxconn, which brought in tidy sums to the tune of US$20 million a year. In 2013, her boss tasked her with the challenge of focusing on small and medium-sized customers with a view to cultivating demand creation opportunities. While it may sound like a step down, it propelled Sally on a giant leap forward. She embarked on a steep learning curve that required her to quickly familiarize herself with the various accounts that fell under her care, and deep-dive into new industries in the process. At the same time, she was required to train and motivate her new team members.
“I encouraged my team members to proactively solve issues and attain targets. Together, we progressively scaled up from around US$5 million to $30 million, step by step,” recalled Sally.
In 2016, Sally embraced another new challenge when she returned to her roots and assumed management of an important key account, Logitech. She spearheaded the development of a long-term business strategy and seized the opportunity to systematically secure Logitech’s subcontractor business. The bold initiative resulted in the reclaiming of US$10 million of Nordic business from our competitors.

Moving Out of “Home
In 2019, Sally stepped up to yet another challenge when she ventured beyond her hometown in Taiwan and took on the role of managing a cross-regional team in charge of key accounts including Luxshare.

In assuming responsibility for the Luxshare business in two markets, Sally was integral to a “first” for Avnet – the first customer account jointly managed by two regions under one budget. And it couldn’t have come at a more challenging time. Along came COVID-19 and the subsequent fallout of unprecedented supply shortages. True to form, Sally and her team didn’t let a global pandemic slow them down. Their performance soared from US$40 million yearly to $350 million.
And the Secret to Sally’s Success is…
In a word, teamwork. Every step of the way, Sally has worked closely with her team members to overcome every challenge, anticipated and unforeseen, that has come her way.

“I believe that if you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together,” said Sally.
Sally’s own ascent within the Avnet organization confirms the wisdom of these disarmingly simple yet deeply insightful words.
Never Afraid to Take the Plunge
A go-getter and pace-setter at work, Sally is equally fearless and tireless outside of work.
“I'm naturally curious and eager to explore all the experiences that life has to offer. I’ve already tried surfing, snorkelling and diving,” shared Sally. She also enjoys traveling, exploring new cities and immersing herself in different cultures.
Not one to shy away from new challenges, Sally continues to break new ground for Avnet and in her own life. We can only wonder out loud – where will Sally go next?
