Microchip Salutes Our Silicon Carbide Product

At a recent training exercise for its South Asian distributors in Desaru, Malaysia, Microchip presented Avnet with an award for developing an onboard charger using silicon carbide (SiC), for our automotive customer VinFast Vietnam.
Forward Thinking and Bold Decision-Making
The Avnet ASEAN team developed the winning product during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic, fraught with supply chain interruptions and delays. At a time when few distributors could commit to fixed lead times and delivery dates, Avnet was able to offer VinFast a short lead time thanks to its close ties with Microchip.
A key factor in the project’s success was Avnet’s supply of $3,000 worth of free samples for VinFast to test before endorsing the order. The investment paid off, and VinFast not only endorsed the initial order but has committed to substantial repeat purchases.
A Triumph of Teamwork
After receiving the award on behalf of the Avnet ASEAN team at the University of Microchip – South Asia Gala Dinner on March 22, 2023, Tan Aik Hoon, Regional President, South Asia, Korea and Avnet United, said, “This award represents a triumph of teamwork at all levels. Our design team worked relentlessly to develop the winning product. Our management had the foresight to approve the supply of free samples to the customer. And our sales team worked relentlessly to secure the win. But above all, our valued partner and supplier Microchip put their faith in us to take its products to the market. Thank you, colleagues.
