Planting Trees and Cultivating Friendships |

On March 23, more than 100 of our colleagues, suppliers, and customers planted 108 trees in Shanghai Gulf Park together.
Beholding the Fruits of their Labors
The event followed an inaugural tree-planting exercise in 2021 at the same location, when Avnet China planted 100 “friendship trees” together with 25 of its key suppliers to celebrate and commemorate our 100th Anniversary. It was gratifying to see that those 2-year-old seedlings had grown into healthy, leafy specimens.
This year, the group of volunteer gardeners numbered 115 staff and partners, including members of senior management Grace Dong, Welcome Wang, Kary Cai, Tom Wang and Weiwei. Volunteer gardeners include Avnet teams from China, Taiwan, Japan, AU, and Farnell.
Healthy Planet, Healthy People, Healthy Business
The tree-planting exercise will be held every year as part of Avnet’s robust Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) program.
Grace Dong, Regional President, Avnet China, said, “ESG is at the heart of everything we do. The simple act of planting trees is nurturing the health of the environment, the health of all humankind, and ultimately the health of our business and our partners’ businesses.”
“Today’s technology is a friend to the environment and may yet become its savior. From agritech to electric vehicles, incredible advances are being made from the ground up. Our small gesture of planting trees is both a practical and symbolic gesture that heralds a healthy future for us all,” Grace added.
“In addition, this is the second year of Avnet’s tree planting event in the gulf park. The trees we planted last year grow up very well amidst strong winds, rain and typhoons. We plant our trees for Avnet, for our supplier and customer partners, which is a symbolization that Avnet shall walk toward the future with them, despite the tough conditions ahead of us. Our business shall all grow steadily with a promising future,” Grace concluded.
