Show Integrity, Especially When Nobody’s Looking
Looking back on his years with Avnet, Carbon acknowledges his good fortune in finding a company whose corporate values are aligned with his personal ones. He believes that acting with integrity is essential in building lasting relationships with customers, colleagues, and the community.
“As a salesperson, it can be tempting to take shortcuts or make promises that we cannot keep,” Carbon admitted. However, he believes that over-promising and under-delivering never pays off in the long term, and advocates transparency in all dealings.
“It's important to always act in customers’ best interests and provide them with accurate information about our company's products and services. I avoid making promises that I can't keep and always disclose any limitations or potential issues. By doing so, I can demonstrate a commitment to honesty and integrity in all my dealings,” he shared.
Carbon has never been offered gifts by customers who have a hidden agenda or a “special purpose”. However, if such a situation were to arise, he is very clear on his response.
“I would be gracious but decline the gift if it could be perceived as a conflict of interest or influence my business decisions. I would thank them for their generosity but explain that I am unable to accept gifts due to company policy and ethical considerations,” said Carbon.
“Integrity is not just about following the rules. It's about doing the right thing, even when no one is watching,” he reflected. “It's about building relationships based on trust, respect, and honesty, and creating a culture of accountability and transparency that allows us to work together towards a common goal.”
An Attitude of Gratitude
In recalling his rise through the ranks at Avnet, Carbon gratefully acknowledges the many people who influenced, supported and mentored him along the way.
“Throughout my career at Avnet, I have had the privilege of working alongside some of the most talented and dedicated individuals in the industry. I have learned valuable lessons from management, seniors, and colleagues across various departments. Their guidance and support have been instrumental in my growth and success within the company,” he said.

Shifting his focus from the past to the present, Carbon extends equally generous praise to his current team members. While he cites their hard work and dedication as a source of inspiration, we suspect it’s a two-way street. The sincerity and humility with which Carbon tells his story – and shares his glory – is a source of inspiration to us.
A Team Player – and a Gamer, too!
Carbon Tam is the embodiment of “a team player”. He is also, we discovered, a keen foodie and an avid gamer.
In case you’re curious, Carbon’s favorite game is “It Takes Two”, an action-adventure platform video game with no single-player option. It is only playable with two players, and features a large number of minigames.
“Playing with my daughter is the best form of stress relief I know. It also strengthens our relationship, as we have to cooperate and collaborate to proceed to the next level,” shared Carbon. (Sounds like teamwork to us!)
