Kind Hearts and Helping Hands

Our colleagues in Malaysia and Singapore recently rallied to support two worthy causes – Be Home For Special Care, Penang, and SATA CommHealth.

Supporting the Differently Abled

A group of volunteers from our Penang office delivered personal items, food staples, delicious packed lunches and a sizeable cash donation to the special residents of Be Home For Special Care. The non-profit charity houses and disadvantaged and differently abled children, free of charge, in a supportive and loving environment.

Reflecting on the visit, organizer and volunteer, Lim Yverond, Customer Service Executive, said, “I’m glad that we could be a part of this effort by Avnet to support and help the local Down Syndrome community. Though we only spent a few hours there, I could tell that our presence really made a difference. We got to help those in need and enjoyed the heartwarming and meaningful experience of putting joyful smiles on their faces.”

Staff confirmed that the children were happier and livelier after the visit. Following the success of this first-time event, the organizers confirmed that the event will become an annual one.

The joy of bringing joy!

Bringing Healthcare to People in Need

Shortly after the Malaysian event, our Singapore office made a donation to SATA CommHealth. The organization delivers medical services to the underprivileged individuals, in the form of mass screening and vaccination programs, subsidised primary care services at medical centres, and a Doctors-On-Wheels programme.

On behalf of Avnet Singapore, Tan Aik Hoon, Regional President, South Asia, presented a monetary donation to a SATA CommHealth representative at the organization’s corporate headquarters in Bedok.

Commenting on the choice of beneficiary, Aik Hoon said, “As we all know, the COVID-19 pandemic shone a light on the increasing importance of technology in delivering timely healthcare to all. And, amazing innovations in diagnostic and imaging technology are making healthcare more accessible for all. However, there are still, sadly, some people who fall through the cracks of the system. As a technology company, it is especially meaningful for us to contribute to the delivery of healthcare to the often-overlooked and most marginalized members of our society.”

Aik Hoon confirmed that Avnet will be on the lookout for similarly meaningful collaborations as part of its corporate responsibility to support the communities that support us.
