Meet Brenda from Singapore

After joining Avnet in 2004, Brenda has enjoyed a rewarding career path that has taken her from Customer Service Executive all the way to Senior Manager, Materials Management, a position she’s held since 2021.

Embracing Opportunities and Challenges

When Brenda joined Avnet 18 years ago, never did she imagine that she would be assuming seven different positions across three different areas – Customer Service, Pricing & Quote, and Materials Management. No doubt her rapid progression owes a lot to her willingness to lean in and step up.

“To me, every progression is an opportunity. It is a chance to grow, get out of my comfort zone and be challenged,” said Brenda, reflecting on her ascent at Avnet.

Brenda humbly credits much of her success to her teams in the South Asia Materials Management and the ASEAN Pricing & Quote, as well as the guidance of her manager and mentor Lionel Lim.

“Despite undergoing many changes in the past decade, the South Asia Material Management team has remained close-knit and united in times of stress and uncertainty. Together they have helped make my transition so much easier,” said Brenda. “Lionel has helped me realize my potential to the fullest. I thank him for believing in me and allowing me to create an environment to continue to inspire and motivate others.”

It is the camaraderie of such a team that makes any impossible possible!

How Teamwork Made Webquote Work

When asked to share a highlight of her years at Avnet, Brenda singled out the Asia-wide implementation of the quoting platform Webquote, which has benefited from ongoing improvements and the collaborative efforts of many departments.

“The professionalism of all regional teammates behind every Webquote project, a disciplined process and sharp critical thinking made Webquote what it is today,” shared Brenda.

Brenda fondly remembers her trip to India, where she was tasked with bringing the Bangalore and New Delhi offices up to speed with face-to-face training.

“It was an intensive week, with many exchanges of best practices and knowledge-sharing. Needless to say, the implementation was successful thanks to the dedication of a very committed team,” she recalled.

“We Are One Avnet – no matter where we are. I am thankful to be in a family where colleagues never think twice about sharing expertise, rendering support making things work,” she added.

A Love of Nature Is in Her Nature

After work, Brenda loves to take photographs of “big, humongous trees” while soaking up the Vitamin D. She also enjoys hiking and sports that involve wheels – surf-skating, rollerblading and cycling included. However, soon she plans to swap the hiking trails and cycling tracks for the skies.

“Skydiving is next on my bucket list,” said Brenda. “I want to challenge myself and conquer my fear.”

Going by Brenda’s success rate to date, we have no doubt that she’ll rise to this and every challenge that comes her way.

They’re done by a team of people”. – Steve Jobs
