Team Singapore “Swings High
to Lift Lives”

On June 7, a group of good-hearted golfers from Avnet Singapore took part in the fundraiser Swing High, Change Lives, which attracted over 100 participants.

First flight: HC Tan (Microchip), Selina Ooi (STM), Tan Aik Hoon (Avnet), Nakamura San (Rohm)

Short-term Shelter and Lifelong Change

All proceeds from the fundraising event went to Singapore-based social service agency, New Hope Community Services (NHCC). The social services agency not only provides shelter for displaced individuals and ex-offenders, but also job coaching and skills training with a view to permanently changing lives. CH Tan, Avnet’s Vice President of Finance, Avnet Asia Pacific, was part of the organizing committee and also emceed the event. Avnet pre-purchased two flights to support NHCC’s social aid initiatives.

Responding to Avnet’s invitation to participate in the charity event, good sports from our valued suppliers Microchip, NXP, STM, Rohm and Vishay joined Avnet golfers on the green. Besides supporting a good cause, it was a great opportunity to catch up after months of successive lockdowns.

The event was graced by Guest of Honor, Minister Masagos Zulkifi, Singapore’s Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Health, and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs.

Second flight: Andy Law (Avnet), Dominic Cheung (Vishay), Gary Lee (NXP), Jacky Tay (Avnet)

Commitment to Community

Avnet’s role in this golfing fundraiser furthers our organization’s sincere commitment to its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) responsibilities and the key objective to help others lead better lives.

“In the wake of the global pandemic, which hit vulnerable individuals and families the hardest, we are intensifying our focus on community engagement,” said Tan Aik Hoon, Regional President, South Asia, Korea and Avnet United. “We look forward to supporting this very commendable event next year, and will continue to look out for opportunities to make a positive impact on the communities we serve.”

Thanks to all participants for once again making us proud to be part of an organization that cares.
