On June 10, Avnet Hong Kong competed in a dragon boat race in the Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships, in celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival. Their impressive teamwork earned them a merit award.
Discipline and Dedication
Avnet Hong Kong responded enthusiastically to the invitation of Sun Life Hong Kong, the title sponsor of the tournament and Avnet’s benefits service provider in Hong Kong. A total of 21 staff, and three external team members, stepped up to compete in the event.

The dragon boat crew underwent eight intensive 2-hour training sessions. During the sessions, participants learned basic dragon-boating skills and focused on the all-important aspect of synchronizing their movements.
In dragon boat racing, synchronicity is considered more important than strength. It is generally acknowledged that a team of synchronised rowers will outperform a team of stronger individuals who fail to orchestrate their efforts. As we know, teamwork is transferable to many areas in life, business included. At Avnet, it’s in our DNA – we all know that we reach further, together!

All the Way to the Finals
The tournament comprised three rounds: preliminary heats, semi-finals, and finals. Avnet Hong Kong made it all the way to the finals. Though they may not have come first, they earned a merit award for their great performance.

Elen Tsang, a credit officer and dragon boat team member, applauded the efforts of her teammates.
“I have to give a ‘like’ to every teammate this year – their team spirit and race spirit are commendable. From the preliminary rounds and meetings, to today's competition, I constantly heard everyone contributing ideas for improvement and saw their great dedication. Regardless of the scores, we won!”
