Our Hong Kong Colleagues Give Life-Saving Blood |

Our colleagues in Hong Kong gave generously to a blood donation drive over six days on April 9, 15 – 18 and 22, across three workplaces. The initiative was organized by the human resources department in collaboration with the Red Cross.
A ‘Bloody Good Idea’ for All Involved
Motivated by the staggering fact that a single blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives, 90 volunteers stepped forward to take part in the donation drive. Before donating, they each underwent a health screening to confirm that it was safe for them to give blood, and conversely that their blood was safe for recipients to receive. After donating, they relaxed for a short while and enjoyed drinks and snacks to replenish the small amount of bodily fluid they had lost.

Typically, blood donations aid the recovery and save the lives of patients ranging from burns and accident victims to those undergoing open heart surgery and organ transplants. A little-known fact is that donating blood can also be beneficial to the health of donors. Many studies suggest that regular blood donation can help lower blood pressure and improve cardiovascular health.
Small Acts Make a Big Difference
Participants were unanimous in their praise of the recent Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) effort, and sincere in their heartfelt desire to participate in more such activities in the future.

Glory Sit, system engineer II, Avnet Hong Kong, summed up the sentiments of his colleagues when he said, “I believe that through this small act of giving, I not only helped those in need but also made a contribution to society. I will continue to support and participate in blood donation activities because it is a simple yet powerful way to care for and support our community.”
