Avnet ANZ Demonstrates Innovative Solutions for the Defense Industry in Australia

Our colleagues Down Under recently took part in in Land Forces 2022, an international land defense exposition held in Brisbane, Australia, at the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre. It was Avnet’s second presence at a major aerospace and defense tradeshow in the region.

Awesome Advances in Adaptive Computing

The buzzing Avnet Asia booth attracted over 100 visitors, hailing from the region’s top military organizations, who got to witness live demonstrations of cutting-edge solutions with exciting potential in defense scenarios.

Among the showcased solutions were the newly-launched Avnet RFSoC SOM and Carrier Board, which are ideal for radio frequency (RF) systems that require a small footprint, low power, and real-time processing; and the AMD-Xilinx Zynq® UltraScale+™ RFSoC and Kria K26 SoM, which optimize edge vision applications requiring flexibility to adapt to changing requirements.

Off-the-Shelf and On-Point

The Avnet RFSoC SOM is believed to be the world’s first System-on-Module (SOM) to be marketed as an off-the-shelf product. Its adaptability, scalability and reliability make it ideal for integration in a wide range of complex wireless systems, shortening their time to market while overcoming the problem of a global chip shortage.

“At a time when advanced technology is playing an increasingly critical role in national and international security, the first-mover advantage is more important than ever,” said Tan Aik Hoon, Regional President for Avnet South Asia, Korea and Avnet United. “We foresee that packaged off-the-shelf solutions like the Avnet RFSoC SOM will help defence customers remain at the vanguard of technological change and even gain a winning edge.”

Wayne Leong, Country Manager, Avnet Australia and New Zealand, expressed excitement at the prospect of returning to Land Forces in 2024. “History shows us that many game-changing innovations that were first adopted by the aerospace and defense industry went on to find many uses in daily life,” he said. “Hence our increasing focus on this vitally important market may well yield great benefits for civilian life as well as for military applications. We look forward to sharing many more such solutions in 2023.”

Land Forces is the Pacific region’s premier biennial International Land Defence Exposition, attracting more than 800 Australian and international companies each year.

The exposition is a key meeting hub for Australian and international industry, defence, academia and government, as the Australian Army implements the most substantial period of recapitalization and optimization since the Second World War.

Kudos to our colleagues Down Under for making our presence felt in an industry of growing global importance.
