Meet Grace Ding from China |
|
Since joining Avnet in 1998, Grace Ding, China’s Director of Field Application Management, has focused on building the success of her customers, her colleagues, and the company.
Shared Success
Originally a Field Application Manager (FAE), Grace was swiftly promoted to the position of Senior FAE and assigned a team of three members. Since stepping up to her current role in 1998, she has been overseeing a team of more than 100 FAEs. Her team is responsible for demand creation, developing new opportunities in emerging markets, and coaching and training fledgling FAEs.
When asked to share her role and responsibilities at Avnet, Grace singles out the success of her customers and colleagues rather than speak of her own accomplishments.
“When the team’s demand creation accelerates the success of our customers and suppliers, we become not just partners but friends,” said Grace. “More importantly, I have seen many FAEs build highly successful careers of their own. Some have been with Avnet for over 10 years, and have received awards from our suppliers.”
It's plain to see that Grace puts the success of her customers and colleagues first. And therein lies the secret of her own success. Her stellar career is a by-product of her commitment to Avnet.
Cultivating a Growth Mindset and a Leaning Organization
Grace is passionate about training, and cites her part in building a training system as a highlight of her career. Her team organise biweekly internal training sessions and post a weekly article on current solutions, not only for FAEs’ self-development but also for the benefit of frontline sales staff.
During the 2022 Financial Year, Grace spearheaded the team that organized 25 online courses, which garnered an attendance of around 6,000 hours. In addition, FAEs also attended suppliers’ training sessions and obtained more than 200 certifications. This not only improved their technology skills and deepened their technical knowledge, but earned the gratitude and respect of their customers and suppliers.
Shining a Light on 100 Years
Another high spot in Grace’s career was taking part in the torch relay, an integral part of Avnet’s centenary celebrations, on May 14, 2021, at Beijing’s Olympic Forest Park.
“I feel very proud to have been working in a 100-year-old company for 23 years,” said Grace.

It is evident that Grace’s pride in being a part of Avnet eclipses any sense of pride in her own achievements, which are considerable to say the least. In July this year, Grace was awarded “China Best Achievement (FAE) Award FY22.” Her various contributions have landed at least six awards for Avnet China over the past year.
Grace-ful Moves
Despite her senior title, Grace is no stuffy and stern authority figure. In fact, she recently let her hair down and took to the stage with her all-male backup dancers at the 2Billion business celebration. She also plays an active role in organizing and directing Avnet China’s annual dinners, from planning programs right down to editing videos.

A generous mentor, a sporting colleague, and a team player as well as a team leader, Grace is a true face of Avnet. And we’re as proud of her as she is of us.
