Avnet India Salutes Women on International Women’s Day |

In March, our Indian colleagues applauded the empowerment and achievements of women at Avnet during this year’s International Women’s Day celebration, which adopted the theme of “Break the Bias.”
Recognition and Inspiration
The virtual hour-long event, organized by HR and hosted by Willis Langford, was attended by colleagues across six cities in India. It kicked off with all female colleagues receiving gifts of chocolates and flowers.
Following Willis’s recap of the outstanding achievements spearheaded by women in recent years, a short video shared key messages from Avnet India’s management team alongside local colleagues striking the #breakthebias pose. A highlight of the event was on online quiz in which some 90 colleagues took part. Congratulations to the three winners – Nikita, Chetan and Shivakant!
The event ended with an engaging and interactive talk by Suresh Kamat, Managing Director, Avnet India, during which he shared real-life stories of how his own family had empowered women.
“I am proud to say that Avnet is an inclusive environment where the potential of every team member is recognized and cultivated, regardless of gender,” said Suresh. “Of course when all our team members perform well, male and female alike, so does our entire organization. Diversity simply makes sense and this is key to creating a powerful workplace culture that drives innovation.”
When Suresh invited the audience to share their own stories, they responded with sincerity and enthusiasm. Renu, a senior customer service executive from Delhi, said that she felt very safe at Avnet, as the environment and colleagues are friendly and supportive. Others applauded Avnet for providing an encouraging workplace that fostered confidence.
Bringing Joy to the Less Privileged
The day ended with a visit by around twenty of Avnet’s female colleagues from our Bangalore office to the Sarala Foundation orphanage. The ladies not only brought gifts of goodies, provisions and toys, but also put on a show of song, dance, fun and games for their rapt young audience.
